Youth Director and Worship Leader
Do you have a desire to make a difference? This applicant will have the opportunity to make a difference in the life of the church as well as in the community. The applicant for this position will have a deep compassion for youth and a desire to lead the congregation in dynamic worship within the Reformed Tradition: Presbyterian, Lutheran, Disciples of Christ only, please. The ideal applicant will live in the Centerville area and will be a self-starter.
In order to provide community youth with faith-based programs and connect them to our church family, we’ve remodeled the downstairs of the church for a youth center complete with Google computers, a projection screen, X Box, and table games. Some of the youth live in undesirable conditions with little or no parental supervision. The candidate must be able to work with law enforcement and other assisting agencies.
Expectations of Youth Director. Approximately 10 hours per week will be spent on youth programs for the congregation and for community youth. This includes prep, programming and support time.
Expectations of the Worship Leader. Approximately 10 hours per week will be spent on developing meaningful worship and related duties. Each week, this position holder will deliver a meaningful, Biblical and inspirational worship message and will provide support information for bulletins, power points or other media as directed. Members of our congregation hold diverse political opinions so worship messages will not be used to influence personal political views.
The Session has contracted with a retired Presbyterian minister for moderating Session meetings, officiating weddings and funerals and administering Sacraments. Although these duties are not part of the current job description, the Session will pay for online classes for the applicant to become a Commissioned Ruling Elder for the Presbyterian denomination so that the applicant could perform these duties in the future.
Although we are a small congregation, (approximately 50 members with an average attendance of 25-35), our members are actively engaged, and we strive to meet the spiritual needs of all ages. Sunday worship is held in the sanctuary and is accompanied by on screen media. Adult Bible Study meets at 9 am on Sunday mornings and Jan Swaby is currently leading a study of the book of Revelations. Sunday School averaged 10 children in 2018. The Fellowship Hall that adjoins the sanctuary is where we gather and become a church family. Coffee and cookies are shared after worship, potluck dinners and community events are hosted here. The Youth Program is in suspension until the new applicant is in place and we are looking forward to starting this up again!
One Prez Family Church is an open and affirming congregation and we affirm the dignity and worth of every person created in the image of God. We welcome persons of every race, language, national origin, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, physical or mental ability, economic or marital status and faith background. We honor the guiding principle that discrimination is incompatible with Christ’s message of unconditional love.
To the new hire: We are praying faithfully and waiting expectantly for you.
